Solving Limits Using Factoring and Conjugates

In this video, we will be discussing methods of manipulating equations to solve limits. The methods of manipulation discussed in this video are:

1. Factoring

Factor the function in order to simplify it, then try plugging in x=a again. Here are some common factoring rules in case you forgot! I haven’t made a video on this, but if I do I will link it here.

2. Conjugates

Multiply f(x) by its conjugate equation in order to simplify, then plug in x=a again.

Try these problems below for more practice:

Question 1: Answer is 3 (Hint: Factor a sum of cubes! See the factoring picture above)
Question 2: Answer is 0.25
(Hint: Multiply by the conjugate, but the sign you need to flip is NOT the one under the square root)
